The Mission
July 17th, 2007 by Carl Thomas. This post is one part testimony, two part prayer request.
I have done lots of posts about a Tuesday night outreach I have been leading. last week a lady from my church wanted to come and see what was happening. She later confessed to me that t one point she was actually scared for her safety. I shouted Halleuijah! That means we are attracting exactly the crowd we feel called to reach. The young urban knuckle heads.
Last week we had almost 40 people in a living room and man did it get hot! I was there worshiping when the Holy Ghost said, “Why don’t you take off your shirt?” Mind you, I had on a t-shirt underneath, but I was thinking, “I am about to preach.” Thankfully it was a new shirt because I preached the Gospel that night in a wife beater to a group of young men who find that suitable attire.
Among the (many) people flopping around on the floor was a Mormon girl who missed her flight back to Arizona because of a traffic jam on the way to the airport. One guy who got saved was the roommate of a crack dealer that has been coming (we believe that this dealer is the gateway to nothing short of a revival so please pray for his deliverance and salvation).
This Saturday we are going to have a big blowout with performances and almost a real service. We are expecting over 100 to show up. Here are the flyers: (click them for a larger view)
Would you please pray for the lost to be saved? We have gone into every hood we can find inviting people. We really need the grace of God in this thing and are hoping for a real move of God. This is not going to be some Billy Graham crusade. We are praying for the supernatural to manifest. We want miracles, signs and wonders. This generation has heard the Gospel but has never experienced the full Gospel. It is my goal to make that an unavoidable fact.

I’m just so really, really EXCITED about all this. I’m praying with ya. And I love the flyers!
Please if you get the time blog some more posts about all this. I’d love to grab all your wisdom – and anointing! How did you start engaging with “the young urban knuckleheads”? How did you progress from getting to know them, to focussing them a little on God, and how did you progress from simple conversations about God to some kind of assembly?
I’ve been inspired by your posts over the last wee while, but I’m also HUNGRY to get the nuts and bolts! I feel so drawn to this age group over here in the UK. The youth culture is different in some ways but obviously the same issues. I’m just praying for opportunities to demonstrate the power of the Spirit and the love of the Father (healing, setting free from addictions etc) and to demonstrate Christianity that is sincere and truly spiritual and “real” with Jesus. I know many young people are HUNGRY for the real deal, but they don’t know where to look and they’re not ENGAGED by trad church.
Continue to be blessed my friend. May the Holy Ghost keep taking over, and may you have the clarity to share how you co-operated with Him so that what you’re gifted with can reproduce elsewhere. Don’t hold back on the day-to-day stuff. Give it away and more will be pressed into your lap!

Thanks to all who have replied.
Mark – I just had a really long conversation with a few of them that I will post the details of. You will not believe what they said. You will slap yourself in the forehead and say DUH!

I’ll go anoint my forehead now so that it doesn’t hurt later

When Jesus said the fields were ripe and ready to be harvested, He did not say we should be picky about who to harvest. In my limited gardening experiences I have noticed that there will always be some veggies that are less than perfect. When harvest time comes, those are picked right along w/the ‘good ones’. My mother would say, ‘don’t throw that out, a lot of it is still good’. I commend you on reaping where many refuse to go. You are in my prayers.

God truly confounds the wise. Some of these guys are gonna rock modern christianity with how God uses them. I am excited to be a part of what He is doing!
