Multi-Site Conference
October 1st, 2008 by Carl Thomas. This week there was a big multi-site conference where church leaders come to learn about doing church on several campuses. The underlying belief is that you don’t have to be in the same room as the teacher to gain the information being taught.
And they believe the best way to teach this is to have people from all over the country fly into their location to learn it.
The irony of this never ceases to make me laugh.

It just goes to show if you write enough you are bound to stumble upon something worth reading.

I agree. They could offer it online for a small price. I am going to an online school and I like it better than being in person. As well I went to another school last year that offered live teaching on church growth. I guess they have the lastest fad.

But a lot of what you get from a conference isn’t just the formal teaching sessions that could be streamed over the internet. It’s the small group discussing what they just heard over lunch, and sharing their own perspectives on what has and hasn’t worked in their personal experience.
Even multi-site churches where the teaching is broadcast from the main campus have groups of people gathering where interaction can take place before and after the service.
So if the multi-site conference (or any conference) was done strictly as a webcast, it would lose the relational aspect, and I think you would agree that relationship is pretty important.
