Title: The Ministry Model of Jesus

Expound on the guys walking on the road to Emmaus

Text Luke 24:27-36

Intro
Who is the most effective ministers you know?
• Local church staff members who put in countless hours
• Great evangelists like Reinhart Bonnke
• Healing ministers Benny Hinn
• Maybe writers who reach millions like Rick Warren or Max Lucado?

All these men are indeed great ministers but tonight, I would like to examine the ministry model of my favorite minister, Jesus.
Upon his resurrection, there are only a few recorded accounts of Jesus’ activities. This would make the few that we have record of important.
I contend that He did what He did after His resurrection and before His ascension as a model for us.
Proposition
There are 3 aspects of the ministry model Jesus showed to us after His resurrection.
1. Discipled in the Word by God
v27. “beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Script”ures the things concerning Himself.

1(1 Cor 3:10) According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

2. Communion with God

Martha’s sister Mary sat at the feet of Jesus
• Psalm 4:4 - “Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.”
• Luke 10:39 - “And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.”
Rev 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Dig the wells to prepare for seasons of famine.

3. Preach what you know
Rev 12.11 And they overcame him [the enemy] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony,

What Jesus told the disciples of John the Baptist.

(Luke 7:22) Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Overcome the enemy with the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.

34 “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”
The result

Jesus revealed himself to them
They Communed
Luke 20
42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.

The scriptures were opened to them

45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

(John 20:21) 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

When you follow these steps you can expect God to show up and minister. In Acts it says that the apostles’ doctrine was confirmed with mighty signs and wonders. These men had seen God and among them and ministered in the Fear of the Lord. They saw what He had done and had no doubt that He would do it again.

Believe that he will show up in the midst of your ministry.
