What I Learned in 2005 - Healthy Churches Grow

January 11th, 2006 by Carl Thomas.

This is part of a string of articles reflecting some of the more important things i learned in 2005.

There is so much debate about how big a church should get. I think most people argue about what to do once the people get there to the point of being incapable of doing the great commission and actually getting people into the Church!

If your church has a heart to reach the lost then when the lost get there discipleship happens because it is the heart of the people to see them grow in God. If young people with kids start to show up, God raises up youth leaders. Teachers begin to want to teach and comforters begin to want to comfort.Worshiper at Boca Church of All Nations

Conversely, when churches become so inward focused they do not grow. I was a part of a church that showed no growth for years and the leadership had the pride to attribute it to their spiritual depth! I attribute it to spiritual death. Converts are the lifeblood of the local church. Their zeal keeps people motivated and challenged. Their needs keep people functioning in their giftings.

For too long we have let the accusations of those bearing no fruit dictate what we should do. My church is growing by leaps and bounds and we are praying for more.

There is discussion about how big we should get and what to do with the people and what to do about facilities but we don’t let that stop us from reaching the lost and unchurched.

I pray that a passion for people happens in every church with the evidence of people who were not in the family of God being grafted in.

Sometimes bigger is better!
