Gather ‘Round as I Rail Against the Prophetic

March 5th, 2008 by Carl Thomas.

No, I am not a cessationist. If you don’t believe what the Bible says about the gift of prophesy and you are looking for someone to blaspheme with you will be really disappointed with this post.

My primary giftings surround the prophetic. But much of what I see today is just plan pathetic. In the next couple days I will outline what I see wrong with the church regarding prophetic ministry. Much of which is encapsulated in this little video.

Without being unkind, the woman shows an obvious lack of self control, flows in judgment, behaves like a complete loon, and in the end, the woman does not really stand for anything.

I’m not making the connection between this woman and anything prophetic. What’d I miss?

However, from the moment I first saw her, I thought to myself that although most folks are not that rabid, the sentiments she expresses in the video are certainly common in the church. So is the hypocrisy of taking the $$ at the end.

I must say that I have NOT seen this kind of behavior on a regular basis in any church I have been a part of — while I do acknowledge Carl’s point that (at least at times) the prophetic realm or just so-called spiriutal realm can get a bit “spooky” — but this lady takes the cake.

What amazes me is that she and her family agreeed to be on such a stupid show in the first place. It kind of defeats her — spiritual warrior (and knowing the voice of the Lord)stand.

What saddens me — is that she literally terrorizes her family with her “spiritual zeal” — which is in indeed misguided. The look on the smallest girl’s face broke my heart — these poor girls are subject to verbal abuse, and even, something of a spiritual abuse. I pray these girls (and the husband/ father) can overcome her horrible butchering of and with the gospels.

Ok - sorry all for not responding earlier. Ministry got a litle hectic and while I consider this blog more of a ministry than a journal, I had to tend to my main ministry more than usual this week.

This first post addressed the abundance of judgment in what is considered prophecy. Kathi hit the nail on the head when she said she did not see anything prophetic here but the most infantile prophetic ministers never move on from this beginning stage. It is where you can see things that are wrong but you lack the grace to deal with them in love. Convinced that you are waring for the Lord, you mouth off with all kinds of rebukes and amount to less than a clanging cymbal.

I was told of a commissioning ceremony where a prophetic minister had to prove their calling. In doing so, the “prophet” told the overseer how God was going to get back at all the people who offended him.

I agree with the other posters. This is one of the strangest “Christian” things I’ve ever seen. Although there is a lot of Charismatich prophetic goofiness, this video is in a whole different category.
