” Do this . . . “

August 27th, 2005 by Carl Thomas.

I find the current debate about communion a little saddening. At what is called the “Last Supper,” Jesus told His disciples to do the same thing in His honor. Here Jesus was telling His disciples to celebrate God in the love feast (Incidentally, this scripture also challenges much of the current teaching on tithing). There are only two warnings on partaking in this:

  • not to celebrate with people in open sin.
  • and the one much of the Body is guilty of,

  • discern the body.
  • What does that mean? Well, if you would like to celebrate God with me, regardless of your doctrine, lets do it.

This was prompted by a story about a man whose lifelong dream was for people of different denominations to have communion together. The story grieved me. Jesus left this as a way to bring us together and we use even that to divide.
