Day 2 - Renewing the Mind
December 7th, 2005 by Carl Thomas.December 8 Psalm 2, Proverbs 2, Acts 2
(Psalm 2) What a great psalm. In the beginning, the psalmist writes about the futility of the nations to think they can determine their won destiny. God says that He is the one who controls the ultimate destiny. Though men may appoint leaders, it is only who the Lord appoints that matters, and of course it is Jesus that He has appointed.
(Proverbs 2) The Lord is faithful to those that cry out to Him for righteousness. Again, He tells us that if we want to do the right thing he will empower us to do so. But He tells us to press through for that blessing of doing His will. He wants us to cry out, to seek, to search. But if we do, He promises that we will find that good and perfect will.
(Acts 2) Here is the pattern that I see here. In the beginning the disciples were together in one accord praying in the upper room. As they waited, the anointing fell upon them and they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Men began to manifest the Spirit of God and function in gifts, but that was not all. While this was happening, they were a sign. Jesus said that the world would know you by the love you show one another. The believers were baptized with the Spirit of God, who is love, and the world took note. After a short message, several thousand were added to the church. At the end of the chapter it tells how all those had every thing in common, came together for the breaking of bread and again had that one accord happening. This is how Holy Spirit intended for us to grow the church.
