Church Management Software

Wow! Tracking offerings is enough to make you not want to receive an offering (almost).

There has to be a low cost alternative to the $1,000 suites of software. I test drove one opensource solution but it’s interface was pretty bad and the support was worse.

If you have any low cost suggestions please let me know. I just need to track offerings. I can do everything else with a spreadsheet at this time.

    I’m seeing several open source solutions that should accomplish the task. Are you looking for web-based, or a desktop application? Which did you try already?

    My dream app would be an opensource (free) web based. I tried open source church based on xoops. I could not find any meaningful docs.

    You recommend anything?

    What about ChurchInfo, available at http://www.churchdb.org/ ? I’ve not used it before, but it *appears* to have the features you require. It also has an online demo so you can login and try it out before you even fiddle with installation.

    I briefly tried that one. You should log in and see how bad the GUI is. My wife is going to be doing all this for now so I need something a little better on the eyes.

    I wonder if this is open source. I can always mod the GUI I guess.

    I guess I’ve used open source software long enough that I don’t expect a beautiful or intuitive interface. In fact, I’m often excited when there is an interface.

    Their Sourceforge project page says it’s licensed under the GPL. Could RevivalBlog be releasing a fork in the future? :D RevivalTracker? :P

    Check out ChurchKeeper (Windows app). Only $129. It’s what my wife (the church bookkeeper) uses for offering tracking and year-end giving statements. They use QuickBooks Pro for department account management.

    Speaking of desktop software, would GnuCash allow you to properly track those tithes and offerings? I’m far from a bookkeeper, so I’m unfamiliar with how it would be done, but I’ve heard great things about it.

    Then again, if you’re an open source advocate, you’re probably familiar, and have vetoed it for some reason. :D I dunno!
