So this is my second post in a row that has nothing to do with revival. I know. I got home from school last night and watched John Stewart who was zinging a litney of jokes about the Cheney gun mishap. Slightly irreverant but hilarious none the less. Here is a really funny snippet that the nyt recaped.
The shooting was fertile ground for Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show,” the popular fake news program on Comedy Central. On Monday night one of the show’s correspondents, Rob Corddry, introduced as a “vice-presidential firearms mishap analyst,” said that “according to the best intelligence available, there were quail hidden in the brush,” and “everyone believed there were quail in the brush,” and “while the quail turned out to be a 78-year-old man, even knowing that today, Mr. Cheney insists he would still have shot Mr. Whittington in the face.”

The Church Report came out with the 50 most influential Christians in America. Charasmatic ministers dominate this years list and that will only grow.
There are some people not on the list that I would have included but they are not big name folks.

Here is my problem with linking Sharon’s stroke to his behavor as the elected leader of Israel:
HE IS NOT SAVED!
How else is he supposed to act? God is not sending strokes to the lost as punishment. Hell is awaiting him unless he gets saved. That is the time of punishment. I think we would have a hard time supporting the punishment theory with scripture. I though that God allows the Jews to be taken over as punishment, not strokes.
Over at Blogs4God they have a pretty good read along the same lines.
So what, every stressed-out senior 145 pounds overweight is struck down by the hand of God? Not that God doesn’t weave all these events into the tapestry of His will - but not as some heavenly hit-man as Robertson likes to imagine.

Here is a story written in the Economist Magazine. I love this mag but can’t afford a subscription.
Here is the text:
Wealth from worship
Dec 20th 2005
From The Economist print edition
An economist finds that going to church is more than its own reward
AT CHRISTMAS, many people do things they would never dream of the rest of the year, from giving presents to getting drunk. Some even go to church. Attendance soars, as millions of once-a-year worshippers fill the pews. In Britain, where most weeks fewer than one person in ten goes to church, attendance more than triples. Even in America, where two-fifths of the people say they go frequently, the share climbs in December.
Some of the occasional churchgoers must wonder whether they might benefit from turning up more often. If they did so, they could gain more than spiritual nourishment. Jonathan Gruber, an economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, claims that regular religious participation leads to better education, higher income and a lower chance of divorce. His results* (based on data covering non-Hispanic white Americans of several Christian denominations, other faiths and none) imply that doubling church attendance raises someone’s income by almost 10%.

I wish more Christians would stand up for what the Gospel calls us to do. You see very little political activism in the NT. You do see people helping people. Though I am disinterested in the personalities here, I am interested in Christians calling out the people who claim to represent us.

A Challenge for Bill O’Reilly
By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF
Let us all pray for Bill O’Reilly.
Let us pray that Mr. O’Reilly will understand that the Christmas spirit isn’t about hectoring people to say “Merry Christmas,” rather than “Happy Holidays,” but about helping the needy.
Let us pray that Mr. O’Reilly will use his huge audience and considerable media savvy to save lives and fight genocide, instead of to vilify those he disagrees with. Let him find inspiration in Jesus, rather than in the Assyrians.
Finally, let’s pray that Mr. O’Reilly and other money-changers in the temple will donate the funds they raise exploiting Christmas - covering the nonexistent “War on Christmas” rakes in viewers and advertising - to feed the hungry and house the homeless.
Amen.
Alas, not all prayers can be answered. Fox News Channel’s crusade against infidels who prefer generic expressions like “Happy Holidays” included 58 separate segments in just a five-day period.
After I suggested in last Sunday’s column that a better way to honor the season might be to stand up to genocide in Darfur (a calamity that Mr. O’Reilly has ignored), Mr. O’Reilly denounced me on his show as a “left-wing ideologue.” Bless you, Mr. O’Reilly, and Merry Christmas to you, too!

Dear Friends and Intercessors,
I just received this email from Rolland Baker, who just arrived back in
Mozambique:
“I finally got home to Pemba after five flights, but on arrival had to turn around immediately and take Heidi to an emergency clinic in Maputo, and now we are on our way to a hospital in South Africa. She has an extremely dangerous, life-threatening staph infection that has re-surfaced after she was hospitalized with the same thing three weeks ago in Malaysia. This type of staph is highly drug-resistant, and in Malaysia was affected by only one kind of antibiotic in the world. Heidi has been taking that antibiotic for these three weeks, but now the infection has flared up severely and is out of control. She has had this infection a number of times over the years, passing it on to me once. Each time it gets worse and harder to treat. Now it is spreading quickly and she is in great pain. We and all at our base in Pemba are praying, and now we are asking for our friends around the world to pray and join with us in trusting Jesus with all our hearts.”
Please go with us before His throne for healing and victory. We will keep you posted on developments.
Together in His Love,
Gordon Haggerty for Rolland & Heidi

I got a mass email today from a local pastor titled, “The Truth.”
Since this man is known for his writing skill I was interested in reading what could be an exposition on the Gospel. How wrong I was. Instead “the truth” was a list as evidence that the real blame in New Orleans should rest on the local officials. Why would he feel the need to send this out? What does this have to do with the Kingdom? What would cause a man of the cloth to do this?
On the Great Day, many church leaders will have to answer for getting their sermons and even their doctrine from government spin doctors. Regardless of your view of the government (in)action, the Christian perspective is not to be one of politics. Unfortunately, in this day of the political church, this passes for pastoral care.
Preacher, do you want to see a genuine move of God or do you want to be well received by kings? Its time for our religous leaders to turn off the poitical commentaries and open the biblical commentaries.

Is it mere coincidence that this massive hurricane destroyed one of America’s most perverse redlight districts? Is it just the luck of the draw that those casinos were tossed? Was it just wordplay when news broadcasters said there was disaster of “Biblical Proportions?”
Yes.
Was Katrina the judgement of God? Quick answer, No.
Jesus is at the right hand of the Father interceding for us. It is impossible to intercede and judge at the same time.
Surely the judgement of God will fall upon the earth but it did not happen in August of 2005. If the judgement of God came upon a city there would be no escaping, no evacuation, no rescue, no roving journalists. It would be unmistakable.
In the coming weeks you will surely see the prophets of doom declare the vengeance of our God but do not be fooled by their words of judgement.
Yes, casinos were destroyed. Yes, avenues of decadent perversion have been swamped. For this I do not mourn. They say it will take months for New Orleans and Biloxi to get back to normal. I hope they never do. I pray that this catastrophe will cause people to realize that time is short and they need to turn their hearts to God. I hope the church will show the love of Jesus with uncompromised truth for His glory.
There was a great wave of revival after earthquakes destroyed San Francisco in the early 20th century, but God did not cause that event either. He used that earthquake to wake sinners from their slumber. I hope He will do the same with Katrina.
