Saturday Morning Musings

September 6th, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 1 Comment | Filed in Revival, The Mission
  • I doubt I am going to keep this up.  I just don’t enjoy it.  Hopefully some other Missionary will begin to do this and I can just link to theirs.
  • photos here.  Great job Catherine!
  • A dude got saved who is about to ship out for Marine bootcamp.  That’s cool.
  • We really had to tarry in worship.  We just were not going to move on till the Spirit of the Lord came.  He really broke through.
  • I love preaching when the Holy Ghost is present.  He make the Word so alive.
  • Wesley turns 20 on Sunday.  Everyone needs to remember to hit him or something.  We got him a cake.
  • More first time guests.  I love that.
  • I feel like we are starting to hit our groove.

A Requiem for the Moral Majority and the Death of Social Conservatism

September 5th, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 8 Comments | Filed in Prophesy, Revival

This is not a political post.  This is  a post about the need for a revival of religion in the United States.

We have a two party system in America.  One is characterized as the “social liberal” party, the Democrats, and the other the “social conservative” party, the Republicans.  In the last thirty years the American electorate has been herded like cattle to vote for one party or the other according to these labels.

The social conservatives often touted “traditional family values” in an effort to stem the tide of the weakening of the moral standards we Christian feel is important to keep this country strong.  That is why this years Republican ticket has me baffled.

The man at the top of the ticket is married to a woman who runs one of the largest beer distributors in the country.  Many Pentecostal ministers make a vow that they will not even take a sip of liquor and almost all Christians believe that drunkenness is sin.  Yet the top of the ticket makes its money off of drunkenness.

The second slot on the ticket is a woman who has left her five children, including a toddler, at home to pursue a career.  She did this by choice, not because of economic need.

Aren’t these the liberal values that the moral majority was supposed to protect us from?

The truth is that the Republican party is no more Christian than the Democratic party.  One was able to co-op the brand name better than the other.

Politicians can’t bring moral reform to the United States.  Only Jesus can do that.  This political season has convinced me more than ever that this country needs revival.

The God of This City

September 4th, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 1 Comment | Filed in Missions, Revival, missional

There is a song out titled “The God of This City.”  It’s a hit right now.  Nothing special about that.  But when you read the back story about God of this City you can see that this one is a little different.  Greg Barnett posted it here.  I encourage you to go read it now.  There is a video for the attention impaired.

What happens when Christians decide to get missional?  They start to hear the hearbeat of God.  God begins to speak through them.  Prophetic utterances come forth.

And ordinary Christian pop gets anointed.  That’s what will happen with your preaching if you decide the same.

Can I Get Some Help On A Skype Headset Microphone?

September 3rd, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 3 Comments | Filed in Blogging, Revival

Plantronics DSP-400 Digitally-Enhanced USB Foldable Stereo Headset and Software

I am starting a podcast soon and this is the final piece of the puzzle.  I need a decent headphone microphone.  Not a great one, because I can’t afford a great one, but a good one.  If you can recommend one in the $40 to $50 range please do.

I also wanted it to have a USB connection.

Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset

But here are the two that I am looking at.  I have annoyed the folks following me on twitter too much already. So if you have any input, please chime in.

I am going to use them in conjunction with Skype.  I know some of my international readers use skype so surely you have an opinion on a good skype headset.

Don’t leave me hanging!

Question For My Reformed & SBC Brothers

September 2nd, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 5 Comments | Filed in Revival
  1. Is it unbiblical for a woman to have authority over a man? (If yes go to question 2)
  2. Is that only in a religious setting or is that a biblical truth? (if biblical truth go to question 3)
  3. Will you oppose this?    (If no go here)

Any questions?

Site Redesign

August 31st, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 8 Comments | Filed in Revival

The old site layout

As I do from time to time I redesigned the Revival Blog.  There were several reasons and i think I am about done with the mods.  This post will only appeal to the nerdiest of the revival folks but that is the way it goes.

  1. My old theme was based on the famous K2 theme.  It is good but it had a tendency to lose the second sidebar when opened in a screen to narrow.  That irked me to no end.  I wanted one I had a little more control over the layout.
  2. I wanted my blog to look more like my ministry site The Mission.  There was none that did so I needed to mod one that could come close.  This current theme is based loosely on the QuickPress theme.  After extensive mods I may call this an official fork in the theme.
  3. I added page tabs to the top.  I will freely admit that this current code is based on my modded k2 code.
  4. Added a large rotating image box on the right side.  The original box there was set for an advertisement.  Religious blogs don’t make any money.  And I like pictures.
  5. I used a plugin to only show post excerpts of everything after the first post. I was trying to clean up the front page.  This helps with seo as well.
  6. Added threaded comments.  I have wanted to do this for a long time.
  7. Re-activated my servers ability to mail you when people comment on a post you commented on.
  8. Added related posts plugin.
  9. Cleaned up the colors.  I like sove variation of a deep red in blogs but they don’t read well.
  10. Made a default gravatar icon.
  11. Colored admin comments and added it to threaded comments. (I am not done stylizing comments.)
  12. Added an archive page.  The jury is out on this one.
  13. Dumped popularity contest.  Not the greatest plugin.

There was more but that is all that comes to mind right away.  If you find any issues please let me know.

By the way, I am experiencing an outpouring in my house as I type this.  I don’t exactly know why but I am being overwhelmed by the presence of God.  I need to take my family to dinner but I just want to lay down and enjoy the presence of the Lord.

  • These recaps are not all that fun to write.  Not sure I will keep them up.  Maybe another missionary will begin to recap.  who know.
  • I decided that I was not going to have another service without the Presence of God.
  • The anointing was so thick the sound guy could hardly stand through worship
  • Khamille let it rip singing Always
  • Preached the first message in out SuperNatural series
  • This is not an academic series.  We are contending for the supernatural.
  • Pics are here. No pics of the altar time.  The photographer was laid out.
  • Next week spiritual warfare.  We are gonna engage in some!
  • Had troubles with the audio, we are trying to rip it from the video.
  • God has been echoing Psalm 104:4 in my head “he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire.”

Our memory verse for the day. Luke 6:27-28

But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

Lets throw in a little Matthew 7:2 for good measure:

For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

Setup Videos

August 27th, 2008 by Carl Thomas | 2 Comments | Filed in Revival

If you do portable church you know the joy of setup.  Some are more intricate than others.  I was inspired by my friend Nathan to post ours. We only used this space once and only set up a fraction of what we have now.

I have followed it with a bunch of others.  If I leave your church’s out let me know.
