Cane River Tent Revival

Who has any info on this? Appearantly Rev Ralph Sexton has had extended meetings that have seen quite the move of God. There was supposed to be a two week tent meeting and it turned into six. Before you dismiss it as jus another camp meeting watch this.

That’s fruit baby! Here are photos of the same.

I have an idea why this has happened. In an article in the Ashville Citizen-Times they reported,

Sexton began this revival in a cornfield six weeks ago with nearly 30 area pastors and churches who came together for a single cause: healing, soothing, saving and bringing God into troubled personal lives and into a world in a state of unrest and war.

I heard David Copeland exhort a crowd along the same lines. If we can stop looking at what revival can do for our church and start looking at what revival can do for God’s people and God’s purpose on the earth then we all might see the move we have been crying out for. Remember that the very creation is crying out for the revealing of the sons of God.

Sexton is quoted as saying,

“In our communities, there seems to be a hunger to return to basic moral and faith values,” he said. “We have an unsettled world. Every continent has a madman and every country is asking for peace and safety and we’re finding none.”

What do you know? The Gospel still works. We don’t need to reinvent it or repackage it.

Maranatha!

When I read about the couple going for the “two-fer”, it troubled me at first:

The couple, married for 21 years, decided let this chance in the water with a reverend, the presence of God and countless witnesses work double-duty.

“It’s our Baptism and wedding at the same time,” she said, her dress soaked and her face salted with tears. “We weren’t married in a church, so this is our marriage ceremony, too.”

My first reaction was that these two ceremonies would be better kept separate, but as I think about it it’s more about renewal. What a blessing that a river was nearby for baptisms!

The secular world has two versions of a Christian baptism: the sprinkling of water on a baby’s head while the priest mumbles something in Latin, or the dunk in the river popularized by the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou and The Apostle. Many of us get dunked in a pool, whether it’s behind the choir/altar or in somebody’s backyard (like I did about 10 years ago).

Perhaps others have better wisdom about this, but I wonder if it is proper for someone who has already been immersion-baptized to have a second ceremony? Does this reflect badly on the first one? For me the water baptism is a public proclamation by the believer in the salvation/redeeming power of Jesus and the readiness of the believer to follow Him. It is NOT a prerequisite for salvation, but a blessing by God for a “washing”. If God ever blesses me with a trip to the Holy Land, will I want to be baptized in the Jordan River? Probably.

My community is planning a “big tent” revival for a week (hosted by an AG church), but there will not be a river nearby. There’s something about “going to the river”. Maybe it has to do with all of the songs about it!

I agree that baptism is not a prerequisite for salvation. But a common manifestation of rededication is the desire to be baptised. I myself have been baptised more than once, though not a baptism of repentance, so I may be biased.

When I got dunked after salvation I was supprised that I did not fell anything. I mean nothing. When I got baptised about four years later I had electricity flowing through my body and could not get out of the water.

I agree that the river would be cool. But I have done baptisms at the beach. Waves crashing into people as they come out of the water is not the most tranquil thing.

thanks for getting the word out about the Cane River Revival. I pastor a church about a half of a mile
down from where the revival was held and It was one of the greatest revivals america has ever seen.
It proves to us that if we will do our part in getting ready for revival that God still can and will do his.
    thanks, Pastor Bryant

Carl, anyone who hasn’t been by ralphsextonministries.com needs to check it out. We saw about 500 people get saved during the 6 weeks. God even moved throughout the local high school. Classes were stopped due to discussion about the revival. 7 students went out into the hall of the school and accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour. I know that all couldn’t be there that wanted to but ALL that have been praying for revival had a part in what happened. God bless you and keep praying.

FYI…the Cane River Revival, 2008 will begin tonight!!! Meetings were postponed last night due to wind damage from storms over the weekend.

Keep checking my blog (link above) for updates about the revival meetings. My family is singing there tonight and I will be playing the bass guitar everynight. The meetings will most likely be broadcast over the internet @ http://www.tbcasheville.org.

The meetings are scheduled for the next 2 weeks, but pray that God will move and revival will break our for 2 months or more.
