She said, "Abortion is a white problem. We don't have abortions. We have our babies whether married or not, young or not." This was a very insightful video, and answered a question that I have had for a number of years -- How do Black, spirit-filled, tongue-talking Pentecostals resolve voting historically Democrat with their faith? As an Afro-Caribbean female who grew up in the US, this has puzzled me for a number of years (I'm in my mid-thirties by the way). I became a naturalized citizen of the US when I was 23 and although I knew historically Blacks have identified themselves politically as Democrat largely because of changes in social and economic policies during the FDR era of the 1930s and 40s, I didn't and still don't get how one reconciled that with the tenets of the Christian faith, especially in light of the fact that the Democrat party is the party of the "left" which includes the ACLU, moveon.org, liberal politics, etc. I do not understand or agree with voting for someone who supports abortion on demand, gay marriage, etc. and allow social policies that involve race to trump deeply held religious beliefs or values that stem from one's faith. I remember after the 2000 election having a conversation with a distant cousin, who is also a Spirit-filled believer, who talked at length about how much she couldn't stand Bush, and no one should have voted for him. I remained silent knowing I had voted for Bush because of the convictions of my faith. Another person present during that conversation knew what I had voted but I chose to remain silent to avoid the verbal conflict. I also found it interesting there were a few men of God, such as Evangelist Perry Stone, and Prophet Kim Clement who came forward stating that God revealed to them that Bush was person He chose as the next president of the United States, but noticed didn't hear this coming from anyone in the Black Pentecostal camp. Then in September of last year, unexpectedly I found a man of God who did. On a side note, I had never voiced this out loud to anyone, only to the Lord in my heart. So finding this prophet, who went on record saying this, was encouraging for me. We are now almost halfway into the first month of the New Year, which is also an election year. Along with this will come the video clips of Democrats visiting black churches, to which I will roll my eyes and declare them hypocrites. Itâ' disturbing to see to say the least. Personally I donâ't ascribe to either party, but my religious convictions line up more with one than the other. it will be interesting to see how race religion plays a part in this year's election.
