Around the Web
October 8th, 2008 by Carl Thomas. Here are a couple things I have wanted to post about but have not had the time to give each their own post.
- David Copeland just started his Pastoral network (he’s AG so we can’t use the “A” word). The truth is, he has been functioning in this role for quite a while but just recently made a formal announcement about what God has been doing. I am honored to be on the ground floor of this.
- A while back I was having some issues with Quickbooks. If you are a church financial guy do not read the next sentence. I have no idea how to manage church finances, have no idea about tax laws, have never kept books for an organization, don’t have the first clue about any requirements. The good news is that we keep all our receipts, I have a record of all giving, and nobody is getting a paycheck (that last one is not such good news actually). We only spend money on the ministry so if we are doing something wrong, we have receipts and records to show we have not done anything immoral or unethical.
Anyway, I had some Quickbooks issues and Brandon Morris really helped me out. We talked over the phone and he got onto my screen somehow and walked me through making things right. If you need any professional Quickbooks related help, I would definitely recommend you look his company up. www.baronsinc.com He is also a volunteer youth pastor at an AG church.
- http://www.churchmediadesign.tv If you do anything graphics related I can not recommend enough this site. Though it is the oddest blog design I may have ever seen (you have to click to see the content) their podcast is amazing. I think they put out a new video like every weekand walk you through great video and graphics related stuff. Brad Zimmerman works for watermark church and films in their basement but is able to make it look like a real studio. Again, if you do anything related to digital media and you don’t subscribe to their podcast go do it right now.
- http://www.planningcenteronline.com/ If you church has the exact same service every week with the same people doing the same thing, then this link is useless. But f you rotate people in your service and/or switch up the routine, this is a pretty good resource. Once you sign up and enter your info and the info of the folks in your service, you can create service schedules and email them directly to the people. I then print them to pdf, email them using outlook, print them and hand them out during the preservice meeting.
- I had something else but it completely escapes me at the moment.
