Wordpress Uprades

This is going to be a bit of a techy post but if you blog it is an important one.

A few months ago I had someone from Russia hack a site targeted to Christian youth. They used an exploit in the website to takeover my site and plaster every page with the most horrible hardcore gay pornography and slurs against Christians. I am not sure how long the site had been like that before I found it.

I have around 30 websites give or take. On them, I have a half dozen or so Wordpress installs. Between those installs I have a gaggle of plugins. In the past I was not that diligent about updating every WordPress install and plugin. I have repented of that and you should also.

Hackers are always looking for a hole to exploit on your server and they have found plenty of them on mine. In the past year hackers have hijacked my server to relay emails all over the world for a variety of products. I am confident that I personally would not endorse any of them. When I finally found the root of the problem, my server was relaying over 30,000 emails a day. What gave the hackers access? An outdated mail script.

Last month I found that someone had installed an irc bot on my server. This caused a nightmare for me. The culprit? An outdated upload script.

Wordpress is constantly updating the script because they are constantly finding holes. But if you are not updating your installs, and updating them the proper way, you are setting yourself up for problems.

The new version of Wordpress 2.5 goes a long way toward helping you keep updated.  Now when a plugin has an update available, you can click a link, add some info, and it will update itself.

Really a great benefit.Wordpress auto update

Preview Service #1 Third Lesson Learned

I have been publishing a series of posts about the “things I learned” at the first preview service of The Mission.

The third important thing I learned at our first preview service can be summed up in one word: Systems.  If your plan for your service is to show up and you will tell everyone what to do, you are in for a rude awakening.

I thought I had a plan for what to get done at the service but was sadly mistaken.  I had not clearly communicated with key people what I wanted them to accomplish and I had not trained and equipped them to figure it out on their own.

Next week I will have a breakfast meeting with my staff and we will have a clear chart of what needs to get done and who is in charge of making that happen.  In a word: systems.

I was in charge of everything because nobody was delegated the authority and responsibility to make sure anything happened.  Lesson learned.  Guarantee it will not happen again.

Jerry Springer

I just watched Jerry Springer for 30 seconds and I feel defiled. How in the world do people watch that show?

My son is sick and I helped my wife get him out the door. I came back to watch a little Morning Joe and began to surf a little (red flag alert). I stopped on Springer because the person on stage looked so ridiculous I was curious if it was a costume or that was how they really looked. Then all kinds of unrighteousness broke out.

Forgive me Father for I have sinned.

Hillsong Lyrics

I listen to a lot of Hollsong music. Their stuff is so solid! I normally have my itunes randomly playing music while I work and To Know Your Name came on. To be honest, I don’t think I have ever fully made out the lyrics so I looked them up.

The precious blood of Jesus Christ redeems,
forgiven I’m alive, restored set free.
Your majesty resides inside of me,
forever I believe. forever I believe.
arrested by your truth and righteousness
your grace has overwhelmed my brokenness
convicted by your spirit, led by your word
your love will never fail
your love will never fail
‘Cause I know you gave, the world your only son for us to
know your name, to live within the saviours love and he took my place,
knowing he’d be crucified and you loved.. you loved, a people undeserving!

These aren’t just pop lyrics. These were born of the Spirit. Hillsong writes all their own stuff these days and churches all over the world sing them. What makes me laugh are the churches that flatly reject the baptism of the Holy Ghost, tongues, prophecy and the likes, gathering together on Sunday morning and singing songs written by people who got the lyrics during a time of praying in tongues and having the Spirit of Prophecy coming upon them. Talk about hypocrates!

Preview Service #1 Second Lesson Learned

The second lesson I learned at my first preview service was that no matter how hard I pray for gifts to manifest, my people cannot read my mind.

The majority of my gifts are in the revelatory realm.  I kind of pick things up by the Spirit and sometimes assume that everyone around me is getting the same thing I am getting.  I have learned in the past week or so that this is not the case.  If everyone was getting the same thing I was getting I would not be needed.

Near the end of worship I felt like we were on the verge of a breakthrough and i wanted to linger in worship a little longer.  I had given Wes some pretty clear instructions before the service multiple times.  I changed those instructions with a little more than a sentence.  Poor Wes found himself with the microphone in his hand and had no clue where we were going.

I could have easily given him some clearer instructions but I didn’t.  Praise God he pulled though and I doubt anyone noticed.  The anointing just thickened at the end of worship.

But my team wants to serve the vision we have received from God and they can’t do that if i don’t articulate it.  I don’t want my people to think that they are on their own and I don’t want them to think that I don’t care about their part.

I just have to schedule in enough time to educate people on expectations and have a clear enough picture of what we are going to do so that others know exactly what their roles will be.

If your people do not know where you as a group are heading, it is not their lack of discernment, it is your lack of communication.  And we are supposed to be professional communicators.

Epson PowerLite 77c 2200 Lumen Multimedia Projector

powerlite 77cDoes anyone here know anything about the Epson PowerLite 77c 2200 Lumen Multimedia Projector? We need a projector and the $2k models are like fantasyland for us.

This one has really good reviews and is 2200 lumen.  I know all the cool guys have 4000 lumen but all the cool guys have some sort of financial sponsors.  Watch how they label me a church planting heretic when I make my own screen!

If you know anything about these could you comment or shoot me a message?

Thanks

Preview Service #1 First Lesson Learned

Setup at your location will take you much longer than you thought regardless how knowledgeable or experienced you are.

We wanted to mop before we set up. It took almost 15 minutes to find a place to fill a bucket. We could not get the gear set up fast enough to get a sound check going. We realized that we did not pack the speaker stands (a fairly important piece of equipment).

We wanted to start at 7:30p.m. but weren’t able to start a sound check till almost 7. At 7:40 the sound died. We are still not sure why but we think because we tried a new configuration with some equipment that did not want to be configured that way.

If you are setting up the same day as your service for the first time. Give waaaaaay too much time for set up. That should almost be enough.

Stay tuned for more lessons learned.
