The Bridge is Over

With the news that John and Carrol are moving on from being senior pastors at TACF and the fact that they are no longer having nightly meetings can it be said that the revival is over?

This is pretty much the same thing that happened to the leaders of the Brownesville Revival at its end.

I was in a really religous church during the revival in Brownesville Assembly of God and I missed it. I am really glad that I was able to receive from Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship.

Why Does the Church Hate Joel Osteen?

I have heard preachers declare that you will reap in fields you have not sown. I have heard messages about inheritance. I have heard about blessings overtaking you. And indeed we are seeing that come to pass in the life of Joel Osteen. His latest book contract is going to make him a lot of money.

You would think most charasmatic preachers would love him because he is proof of the prosterity gospel. But they don’t. They hate him. Why?

Like Joseph’s brothers they don’t really like the one that God chose to bless so they make swipes at him in their messages and toss pebbles at what they perceive to be his doctrine. But rarely do you hear them tell the truth. They covet what he has.

Many men think it is they who should have the giga church and the best selling book. They should be on Larry King. They should have the pretty wife and the happy kids. They went to seminary. They labored in the miserable little churches. They put up with the nasty Deacon Board. What did he do to deserve this?

He served faithfully under his father as unto the Lord and did not covet what his father had. Appearantly that was enough. Appearantly the first commandment with promise is still in effect.

Not only do they not have it, they don’t want him to have it either.

I personally would not want to go to church in an arena. But if you do, why whould I care.  I hope his church doubles again!

Are Any Among Us Sick?

I prayed for a couple people last week that were injured. A leader in our youth group injured her knee while practicing with the dance team. This is a recurring injury that normally has her wearing a knee brace for 2-3 weeks after aggravation. I prayed for her and she said that her knee was completely better by the end of the day. She is dancing again with no difficulty.

A Deacon friend of mine injured his neck and could barely move his head. I prayed for him and he said that before the end of the evening he gained full mobility with no pain by the end of the night.

However, earlier I asked the same Spirit of God to move and heal my son and yet here he is doped up with Motrin dancing in my office too sick to go to the sitter while RevivalMom and I work. And as I type this, I feel the scratch in my throat and hope and pray it does not advance.

What’s up with that?

Can I Get a Witness?

Lots has been written about Abdul Rahman.  He is the guy who was on trial in Afghanastan for being Christian.  They threw out his case for lack of evidence.  This got me to thinking.

If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would they say the same about you?

Just asking.

Un-Christian Activists

Now the media has a term called “gay christian.”  As in gay christian activist.  And I am a tall midget.  I am a monogamous adulterer, a non-lethal murder, and a cash-strapped millionaire. No, make that billiionaire.

Anyway, here is a story about homosexuals who tour christian college campuses spreading false doctrines.  I hope that at least one university will have some students filled with the Holy Ghost and power that will set these people free of the lies that bind them.

This Week’s Del.icio.us bookmarks

This is my first weekly delicious post. I am using the script from Nozell. I was so excited that I was able to mod it a little to put in the footer disclaimer. I do not see the advantage of linking my tags to delicious so I don’t plan to spend the energy doing it. For now I will have to do this manually since I am not sure how to set up a cron job.

ps if you know what this means

Arrange for this page to be hit once a week, say 11:30ish on Sunday in your
# local time. del.icio.us seems to track UTC so depending on which
# timezone you live in, some bookmarks from your yesterday may show
# up. Consider using a simple cronjob that looks like this:
# 30 23 * * 7 $HOME/bin/yawd.sh
# where yawd.sh looks like this:
#	#!/bin/bash
#	curl http://www.yoursite.com/yawd.php

Let me know.

Here is stuff that I found interesting.  some of this is interesting for good reasons, others for not so good and yet more that is to be determined later.  If you need something to look at, have a gander.

These are links that I found interesting. Just because I found it interesting does not mean I agree with it. I find the workings of cults interesting, but only so I can help their members come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. You know what I mean.

Since almost nobody reads this blog it may really not matter.

Revelation 1:6 What does it mean?

Revelation 1:6

King James Version (KJV)

6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

New International Version (NIV)

6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

Amplified Bible (AMP)

6 And formed us into a kingdom (a royal race), priests to His God and Father–to Him be the glory and the power and the majesty and the dominion throughout the ages and forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

American Standard Version (ASV)

6 and he made us to be a kingdom, to be priests unto his God and Father; to him be the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I have heard it taught that some were called to be priests, and some kings.

I have heard it taught that there is a scale with priest on one end and king on the other and that we are all on that scale somewhere.  Some being more on the King side (successful businessmen) and others farther on the priest side (5 fold ministers).

I have heard it taught that a proper way to read that passage is “a kingdom of priests.”  I like this but I do not think the Greek bears witness to a literal interpretation to this end.

Here is the basic question:  Is it that some believers are priests and some kings?  Is it that the believers are each both priest and king to varying degrees?  Or do we collectively comprise a kingdom.  And each of us are now priests?  Small point but big difference.  I have read the Greek and I cannot see how it says what I want it to say.

A Lesson from a Fallen Charasmatic

We all have issues, me especially.  So I am not one to thump other believers on the head.  But when a prominent leader falls into false doctrine we should all learn from what happened so that we can avoid the same fate.  Yes, there are plenty of biblical examples but we do not seem to learn from them.

This all brings me to Carlton Pearson.  I remember when I was engaged, I would lay on the floor and listen to a song of his on repeat that had a lyric that went,

Well if you don’t believe that I been redeemed
You know
(the angels in heaven done signed my name)
This is what I want you to do
Follow me down down down down down to the Jordan stream you know that
(the angel in heaven have signed my name)
Good God
I know I been changed
Do I have a witness in here tonite
That know you been changed
I know I’ve been changed
The angels in heaven done signed my name

If you don’t don’t don’t believe that I been redeemed
You know that the angels in heaven done signed my name
Don’t look at me funny
Follow me down to the Jordan stream
You know the angels in heaven done signed my name

The song spoke of the wonderful experience that happens when we go from children of darkness to children of light.  Mr. Pearson has had a change of heart recently and has swallowed some wacky theology.  Lots has already been written about it but I would like to point you to an article at Rich’s blogrodent.  Very lengthy article by him and an even more interesting exchange in the comment section by some who were in attendance in both the COGIC and Mr. Pearson’s church.

Fusion Fire

I said I would post an update but have been unable to vocalize what happened. I went on my church site and they posted a little about Wednesday’s meeting. While I was preaching, you could feel the tangible presence of God. When I had the altar call it was like the Spirit of God fell in the room.

Here is a link to the church site.

Quick Report

Thanks to all those who were praying for our youth meeting. i do not have time to write a full report but will have one up by the end of Monday. I was a little late getting to church because this happened at dinner.

My wife and I began to weep as we watched our first child get saved by God’s grace.  Believe it or not, the night just got better from there!

FaithFreedom.org

Found this article on this site through this site. Here is an excerpt.

Then came my chance encounter with faithfreedom.org site and for the first time in my life I was awakened to the evil of Islam. It’s not that the city which I live in was spared from Islamic ‘holiness’ (having seen at least fifteen bomb blast in less than 5 years); but somehow I always felt that Islam did not concern me. True, one of my distant friends died in these bomb blasts, but then, such things happen, or so I thought. There’s no one out to get me personally. Life goes on, Islam or no Islam.

and later

It’s not a question of ‘if’; it’s a question of ‘when’? Muslims are not going to have a change of heart. If nothing is done, sooner than later, all of us are going to be slaughtered or subjugated at the altar of Islam. It will be the biggest bitter joke in human history when a bunch of bearded, illiterate, foul-mouthed thugs hold an entire civilization to ransom, rubbishing all scientific and cultural advances made till date. The aim of all invading Muslim armies is to usher their utopian 7th Century barbarity over the conquered lands. It has happened with Persia , it happened with Egypt and India , (three of the most developed and prosperous countries in their time). It is happening in Europe and Scandinavia . Make no mistake; it is going to happen everywhere.

I don’t think it will happen everywhere.  I think a global revival that will sweep through the middle east will prevent that from happening.  Send your rain Lord!

Update on the Anointing

I have been fasting and praying for the anointing service we are going to have for the youth this week. Last night I went to the church to pray and prepare the message. We use our old church building for the youth services and I knew the youth worship team would be practicing there. I wanted to get a sense of what they were planning to play and make any recommendations I felt might guide the service.

I was feeling guilty that I left my house (read: wife with the kids) to go prepare my message but was just hanging out with middle and high school kids.

The youth ministry at my church is neat in the fact that kids like to hang out at the church even when there is not service going on. Many of the kids in our church, like churches all over America, have kids who spend half their time immersed in urban culture and fight the temptations that come from that lifestyle.

One such kid was there hanging out last night. After a while invited him to go pray with me.  The only relatively quite place we could find was the sound booth above the sanctuary.  We began to pray and the power of God fell on us both. Ten minutes into our prayer time the young man was struck by the conviction of the Holy Ghost. He began to weep uncontrollably. I prayed for him and pleaded with God to fully finish the work that he had begun. After fully a half hour of travailing he looked up at me and said, “I feel free! I feel like the Lord is standing right next to me!” Right at that time someone called looking for him because his ride was there to take him home.

By this time it was late and I went to the main sanctuary to pray and seek the Lord for my message. I began to reflect on the night’s activities and what God had been doing by His Spirit the past few months and he dropped the entire message in me all at once. I sat down, cracked open my bible and wrote the whole thing. No more than 10 minutes spent.
