Let me say this from the beginning, I am pentecostal. I believe in supernatural healing. When I have to use medicine or go to a doctor I view it as a defeat. With that being said I think it is shameful that many Christians could take a lesson in morality from the medical profession.
Most Christians are in agreement that murder is bad. I agree. Many Christians today so hate the murder of the unborn that it is perhaps the most important public policy today. I personally know people that voted Republican in the last presidential election on the abortion plank alone even though they disagreed on 80% on the rest of the platform. Mind you, the prohibition of abortion is nowhere in scripture. The scripture says that you can’t murder. That, combined with the inability of the unborn to protect itself is the cause of the passion on this point.
This was the basis for the outcry over the Terry Schiavo case. Here was a woman who was alive, albeit in a vegetative state, and they were going to let her die when she could be kept alive. Again, life is precious and should be preserved.
So what is this rant about?
Many Christians say murder is bad, unless a court says it is OK. I can find no other instance where the Christian right will defer to the courts over the bible. We are not to murder, not the unborn, not the sick, not the insane, not the burdensome, not the murderous. Otherwise we become the murderers! This is sin (period) Would you tell a young woman that it is OK to have an abortion since it is legal? Then how can you justify the death penalty?
The California Medial Association says that it would be immoral for a doctor to murder a patient. To that I say it is immoral for anyone to murder. Amen.
