I am Pentecostal

so this guy posted an article on the web telling why he rejects the baptism in the Holy Spirit. You can read it here. He basically says, “I don’t want to be associated with them.” Appearantly he thinks he can be more godly by refusing to accept the apostle’s doctrine.

The great corruptions of pentecostalism do the church so much harm that I wonder if we do ourselves a service by counting them as part of the fold?

I hope this guy buys a Bible with John 7:24 in it.
my response is here.

Led by the Spirit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14).

The sons of God can expect to be led by the Spirit of God.

Believers can expect to be led, or guided, by the Holy Spirit. Jesus, referring to the time when the Holy Spirit would come, said, “He will guide you.” So we don’t have to look to man for guidance - that’s unscriptural. All of God’s children have the Spirit of God within and can expect to be guided by Him.

In February 1959, Jesus appeared to me in an open vision. I heard His footsteps coming into my hospital room. He sat on a chair by my bed and talked to me for an hour and a half about the ministry of a prophet.

One of the things He said was, “The prophet’s ministry is not set in the Church to guide members and tell them what to do. Under the Old Covenant, people would go to the prophet to seek advice, or direction, or guidance, because he had the Spirit of God and they didn’t. No one under the Old Covenant, except the king, the priest, and the prophet, had the Holy Spirit upon them. The people knew nothing about the Spirit’s leading. But under the New Covenant it does not say, ‘As many as are led by the prophets, they are the sons of God.’ It says, ‘As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.’”

Confession: I am a child of God. I can expect to be led by the Spirit of God. He is leading me now.

The Heterosexual Revolution - New York Times

This is an interesting article that challanges the current thought on why marriage is declining.

The Heterosexual Revolution
By STEPHANIE COONTZ
Olympia, Wash.

THE last week has been tough for opponents of same-sex marriage. First Canadian and then Spanish legislators voted to legalize the practice, prompting American social conservatives to renew their call for a constitutional amendment banning such marriages here. James Dobson of the evangelical group Focus on the Family has warned that without that ban, marriage as we have known it for 5,000 years will be overturned.

My research on marriage and family life seldom leads me to agree with Dr. Dobson, much less to accuse him of understatement. But in this case, Dr. Dobson’s warnings come 30 years too late. Traditional marriage, with its 5,000-year history, has already been upended. Gays and lesbians, however, didn’t spearhead that revolution: heterosexuals did.

Denomination debates declaration of Jesus’ divinity

Can you even believe this?

Link to original article
By JOHN CHADWICK
STAFF WRITER

It’s a bedrock belief of Christianity - not a topic for debate.

Until now.

A venerable Protestant denomination - at the behest of some of its conservative members - is preparing to vote next month on a measure declaring that Jesus Christ is the Lord, and making it mandatory for clergy to accept his divinity.

It may seem like a slam dunk, but delegates for the 1.3 million-member United Church of Christ may reject the resolution. Several Bergen County pastors, who aren’t delegates to the convention, said they expect the measure to fail.

Why A Jew Supports Christian America

Why A Jew Supports Christian America

By Don Feder
FrontPageMagazine.com | December 24, 2004

In America today, Christians have many enemies and few friends. I would like to be counted among the latter.

It might appear odd that, as a Jew, I would support Christians and the concept of Christian America. Once upon a time, it would have seemed equally strange for a Christian to call himself a Zionist.

But the world is forever and relentlessly changing. As a member of one of the most persecuted minorities in history, I can relate to what Christians are experiencing in the first decade of the 21st century.

In America today, devout Christians are rapidly assuming the roles traditionally assigned to Jews during the long centuries of exile: scapegoats, objects of ridicule, the focal point of conspiracy theories, and the despised “other.”

Do I exaggerate? Consider the following examples (culled from the daily news) of what can only be called an anti-Christian onslaught:

According to a just-released survey by the Parents Television Council, portrayals of religion (mostly Christianity) on prime time television are overwhelmingly negative. On NBC, there are 9.5 negative representations of faith for every positive depiction. Christians as buffoons or villains has become a staple of comedies and dramas.

Why Don’t We Have the Fire?

Part 1

In many cases, we don’t have the fire of God because we don’t think we need it. We are content to live without it.

The Israelites didn’t think they needed fire. They thought they needed water. They focused on their felt need, while being blind to their real need. But once the fire came, then the rain came.

What Does the Fire Do?

Part 1

When the fire falls, we see God for who He really is. Both the Old and New Testaments reveal God to be a God of fire.

In the 20th century, we have come to teach and worship two Gods - “the God of the Old Testament,” who is holy and just and judges sin; and “the God of the New Testament,” who is loving, merciful, and gracious.

But the God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New Testament. At Mt. Sinai, where the law was given, God revealed Himself with “lightnings and thunderings and voices.”

Remember the Blood

“The Word, the Name, the Blood” is the theme at our church. Like many churches, we have majored on the power of the Word of God because it’s the Word of God that sets us free. Jesus said in John 8:31-32, “If you abide in My word…you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”

The Word of God can and will set you free. We know there’s power in the Word of God.

Hot Points – A blog by Go Daddy founder and president Bob Parsons Follow this link for the original article.

Over a year ago, I was asked by BizAz Magazine (a local Phoenix magazine) to speak at one of its “Business Beneath The Surface” breakfast meetings. As part of the event, participants have the option of submitting questions to the speakers, which are then answered during the breakfast.

One of the questions directed towards me was, “What advice do you have for someone who is just starting a business?”
